Haste the Day is a metalcore band formed in Carmel, Indiana, in 2001. Drummer Devin Chaulk found the name in the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul." They started as a three-piece, with Brennan Chaulk on guitar, Devin Chaulk on drums and Mike Murphy on bass. Jason Barnes joined on guitar. In 2002 they brought in singer Jimmy Ryan, who'd recognized Barnes at a Bible study.

Burning Bridges and When Everything Falls

After a 2002 EP they made themselves, That They May Know You, the band signed with Solid State Records in 2003. Burning Bridges came out on 9 March 2004, with videos for "The Closest Thing to Closure" and "American Love." When Everything Falls followed on 28 June 2005, and the band toured hard behind it.

Ryan left at the end of 2005. He was getting married, and he later took a job at Tooth & Nail. Stephen Keech of New Day Awakening became the singer in February 2006. With Keech they made Pressure the Hinges (2007), Dreamer (2008) and Attack of the Wolf King (2010). They spent summer 2007 on the Vans Warped Tour, then went out across the country with Atreyu and As I Lay Dying.

The end, then a second act

The band announced it was breaking up in November 2010. At the final show in Indianapolis on 11 March 2011, the original lineup came back to play "Substance." They re-formed in 2014 to mark ten years of Burning Bridges. Coward followed on Solid State in 2015, and by the band's account it reached No. 2 on the Christian chart. After playing Furnace Fest in 2023, Dissenter came out on 1 May 2026.

A line drawn on faith

Haste the Day took its name from a hymn, and the band has been firm about faith. In 2008 they asked guitarist Jason Barnes to step down because he was no longer a Christian. A year later Brennan Chaulk left, partly to write Christian worship music. Reviewing When Everything Falls, AllMusic said the band shared its experiences through a Christian lens without beating listeners over the head.

Screams and choruses

Haste the Day play metalcore with screamed verses and sung choruses, right in the middle of the Solid State sound. AllMusic thought When Everything Falls was closer to Christian screamo than pure metalcore. They toured with Norma Jean on The Anti-Mother Tour, and with Project 86 and The Chariot on the Scream the Prayer Tour. Drummer Giuseppe Capolupo later joined The Devil Wears Prada.
