Watch
Disciple is a Knoxville, Tennessee, band that plays Christian metal. High school friends Kevin Young, Brad Noah, Adrian DiTommasi and Tim Barrett started it in December 1992. Their first show was in May 1993 at Topside Church of God in nearby Louisville, Tennessee. Young still fronts the band, which has now made 13 studio albums.
Slain Records and the climb
Their first two albums were made with producer Jesse Jones. What Was I Thinking (1995) came out on the band's own Slain Records and was their first with Travis Wyrick, who'd go on to produce seven of their albums. A deal with Warner Resound followed in 1997, then albums on Rugged Records and By God (2001). Cross Rhythms gave Back Again (2003) a 9/10.
Disciple signed to INO Records for their self-titled 2005 album. Its song "The Wait Is Over" was the most-played Christian rock song of that year. Scars Remain came next, in 2006. "After the World" topped Christian Hit Radio, a first for them, and "Game On" was the theme for WWE Cyber Sunday 2006. The album won the Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year, the band's first Dove.
Young and a new crew
Noah and bassist Joey Fife stepped down in 2008. Young led a new lineup through Southern Hospitality (2008), Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (2010) and O God Save Us All (2012). Then the band went independent and asked fans to pay for the next two records. Attack came out in 2014. The campaign for Long Live the Rebels raised $127,675 from 2,012 backers, and Tooth & Nail released it in 2016.
Disciple signed to Tooth & Nail outright for Love Letter Kill Shot (2019) and released Skeleton Psalms in 2023. Their version of "Firm Foundation (He Won't)," made with their worship side project Honor & Glory, was nominated for the 2025 Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
Out in the open
Disciple have never kept their faith quiet. They started Honor & Glory just to make worship music, and they've toured with Superchick, Newsboys and Kutless. In 2024 they shared a stage in Germany with Petra for Petra's song "Beyond Belief."
Winter Jam to WWE
Disciple sit between Christian metal and hard rock. They're the kind of band that plays Winter Jam and also lands a WWE entrance theme. They've toured with Thousand Foot Krutch, Red, Emery, Project 86 and Skillet, and Project 86's Andrew Schwab sings on their song "Panic Room."
