Oak Ridge starts the interior of America’s new fuel plant

TRISO-X has started interior work at its TX-1 nuclear fuel plant in Oak Ridge, which is designed to make 700,000 fuel pebbles a year.

Oak Ridge is fitting out a fuel plant. Not a first pebble — the interior. TRISO-X dated 24 August 2026 as the next construction phase at TX-1 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee: auxiliary buildings, interior buildout, and equipment installation. Vertical construction is nearing completion. Clark Construction Group stays on the job.

TRISO-X dated 24 August: auxiliary buildings, interior, equipment, Clark still on the job. 214,000 square feet, 700,000 pebbles a year, 5 metric tons of uranium, enough for up to 11 Xe-100s — the company’s numbers. First NRC Category 2 licence to process HALEU. Oak Ridge makes the pebbles. Seadrift is the first proposed customer plant.
