The paper
Republish our stories, free
Free stories, words only. Keep the byline, link back, and don't change a word.
Do you run a church bulletin, school or club newsletter, community paper or local website? You're welcome to republish our free stories at no cost. We'd like good, well-sourced news to reach as many people as possible.
You don't need to sign up, pay or ask us first. Just follow the rules below.
What you can republish
- Any free story on our site: one you can read in full without subscribing.
- The words only: the headline, the byline and the story text.
What you can't republish
- Stories for subscribers (anything behind our paywall).
- Any images or photos. That includes Amplified band photos, album and story covers, illustrations, graphics and our logo.
- Embedded videos.
- Ciphers, or their answers.
- Lessons.
The rules, every time
- Keep the byline. Use the byline exactly as it appears on our page, with “The Gold Standard” next to it.
- Link back. End with this line: This story first appeared in The Gold Standard (thegoldstandard.news). Online, make it a working link to the original story. In a paper newsletter or a PDF, show the story's web address in full.
- Don't edit. Run the story as we published it. Don't change, add or cut any words, the headline or the facts.
- Text only. Leave out every image, photo and video, even if it sits inside the story.
- Don't sell it. Don't sell our stories, put them behind your own paywall or include them in a paid feed. A newsletter or website that carries ads is fine.
Also, please
- Don't suggest we endorse you, your organisation or any political view.
- If we correct a story, update your copy when you can. Our corrections are listed on the corrections page.
- If we ask you to take a story down, please do.
How to do it
- Open a free story on our site.
- Copy the headline, the byline and the story text. Leave the pictures and videos behind.
- Paste it in full, then add the credit line with the link back.
Tell us (optional)
We like knowing where our stories end up, and we can point you to ones that suit your readers. Questions are welcome too. Email thestandard.desk@proton.me.
For schools
Students and teachers read more for free. Make an account with your school email address and confirm it from the link we send you. You then get 10 paid stories free every month, on top of every free story.
- School emails include addresses ending in .edu.au or .school.nz, and state education department addresses for students and staff (for example education.nsw.gov.au, education.vic.gov.au or ntschools.net).
- The count starts again on the 1st of each month (Adelaide time). Opening the same story twice counts once.
- After 10, stories ask you to subscribe as usual until the next month.
This is for reading. The rules above still apply to anything you republish, so paid stories stay off your site or newsletter. Free stories can be shared with a class as often as you like.
In one line: free stories, words only, free to republish with the byline and a link back, with no changes, for community and non-commercial use. Paid stories, pictures, videos, Ciphers and Lessons are not included.
