FAA's final review backs wider Starship Pacific reentry zones

The FAA's final environmental review expands Starship's Pacific reentry contingency zones and adds a Northern Pacific one. It's paperwork, not a launch.

The Pacific got a new contingency zone on paper. That is the FAA's Final Tiered Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact, dated about 2 September 2026, not a launch. The agency posted the Final Tiered EA and FONSI/ROD for SpaceX Starship reentry contingency operations in the Pacific Ocean and an additional Starship landing trajectory back to Starbase. The Federal Register notice of availability followed on 4 September.
