Questions readers ask
When was One Nation founded?
Pauline Hanson launched One Nation with David Oldfield and David Ettridge on 11 April 1997 in Ipswich. The Australian Electoral Commission registered the party on 27 June 1997.
Who leads One Nation?
Pauline Hanson, a senator for Queensland since 2016, is the party's federal leader and president. A 2017 change to the party's constitution lets her stay president for as long as she wishes and choose her successor.
How many MPs does One Nation have in federal parliament?
As of 2 October 2026 it has four senators (Pauline Hanson, Malcolm Roberts, Sean Bell and Tyron Whitten) and two House of Representatives members (Barnaby Joyce, the Member for New England, and David Farley, the Member for Farrer).
When did One Nation first win a House of Representatives seat?
David Farley won the Farrer by-election in May 2026, and the AEC declared him elected on 28 May. It was the first time a One Nation candidate had won a House of Representatives seat.
What does One Nation say about immigration?
On its own policy page the party says it would cap visas at 130,000 a year, reintroduce Temporary Protection Visas, introduce an eight-year wait for citizenship and welfare, and withdraw Australia from the UN Refugee Convention. These are the party's claims, not independent findings.
