Inland Rail has started laying track on the only brand-new stretch of line between Melbourne and Parkes. The first rails of the 39 km Illabo to Stockinbingal section went down at the Stockinbingal end last week, Inland Rail said in a release on Thursday 1 October, and Infrastructure Magazine picked it up on Monday.
