US can't account for 9% of recalled Takata airbags

NHTSA says it can't confirm the status of 9% of 67 million recalled Takata airbags in the US. Australia's compulsory recall hit 99.9% by 2021.

America's road safety regulator has admitted it doesn't know what happened to millions of the most dangerous airbags ever fitted to cars. Nearly 18 years after the Takata recalls began, about 9% of them are simply unaccounted for.
