Senate blocks inquiry into Hanson's staffing bill

One Nation wanted a committee to examine the Prime Minister's power over MPs' staff. Labor, the Greens and two Liberals voted it down.

The Senate has refused to send Pauline Hanson's bill on MPs' staffing to a committee inquiry. On Thursday morning the government moved to have the Members of Parliament (Staff) Amendment (Safe Staffing Guarantee) Bill 2026 not referred to a committee, and it got its way 28 votes to seven.
