Francis Halzen has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for IceCube, the neutrino observatory he dreamed up and then helped bury in a cubic kilometre of ice at the South Pole. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced it in Stockholm on Tuesday 6 October. The Belgian-born University of Wisconsin-Madison professor takes home the whole prize, 12 million Swedish kronor.
